The file gets into the system, only if something downloaded not from a trusted source. Off late, the most effective way of spreading the same is through emails that have come up from several unknown sources. Once this gets into the system, the files in your system get encrypt. To get back the access to these files, the system would then ask for payment in bitcoins!

However, even if you have something urgent and serious and you want to get done with this, the security experts claim that there is no guarantee that you would get back your details from the “ransomware” even after you have paid.

Apart from this, various other mishaps have also turned up. The ransomware has at times completely locked the computer displaying a message to make the payment to get back access. Apart from this, they have also at times come up with pop ups. These pop-ups are almost impossible to close which makes the system hard or impossible to use.

Where Has It Spread:

While some of the sites claim the number of countries to be affected is 99, others claim it to be even higher. The exact number of the countries that are affected by this particular virus is yet to be known, but all that we can say is the fact that the virus has spread at a fast rate and quite widely.

What sets the virus different from other traditional ones is the fact that the virus is not just a program, but a worm! This means, that the virus looks to spread itself as far as they can. Well, the same is quite evident from the recent updates. What the ransomware does is, it simply gets into a computer and tries to get connected to as many computers as possible.

The difference of this malware is, that it has a habit of mutating. This, in turn, makes them change itself to get going in various computers! Many firms are already aware of the ransomware and are looking forward to stopping it this time. According to the cyber security firms, WannaCry exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft. The vulnerability is seen in the update patched by Microsoft in March.

The vulnerability exploited here is believed to have been developed by the National Security Agency. However, the same was released last month by the Shadow Brokers. The group claimed to have obtained it from secret sources in NSA server.

Keep an eye here, will be updating you on the recent events as soon as we get any news about it!

Very informative. Please share and spread the awareness to counter the cyber attack before it takes control of a larger pie of unprotected systems.

Please share as much as possible as it has effected the Govt organisation in USA also. First case of so case has also been reported and booked in Hyderabad on Saturday/Sunday. Check Deccan Chronicle for further details as it reported a full article on it this Monday.
Most of the IT firms have also kept their system shut till a solution is found to the problem.
